The Pros And Cons Of Freelancing

The Pros And Cons Of Freelancing

When it comes to making career choices one of the primary question which arises is whether to do a part time job or a full time one. Though each have their own sets of pros and cons, but as grass appears greener on the other side of the fence, most people specially the upcoming generation wish or opt for a free-lancing career. Let us discover through this article the weightage of pros vs. cons of free-lancing.

Choice And Variety

one can make the voluntary choice regarding the clients, projects, schedules, topics, number of working hours etc. which is not possible in regular salaried jobs.

Scheduling

one can set their own working schedules without any boundations of superiors or the work itself. You are let with plenty of time to pursue any other activity of your choice but as a full-time employee you have to dedicate fixed number of working hours.

Flexibility

as freelancers one can increase or decrease the number of working hours, have lots of commitments outside of work that require you to take time off, have a perfect work life balance as long as you keep meeting your deadlines.

Office Politics

this is the biggest blessing to free lancers that they stay away from stressful office politics as they do not have to report to multiple offices or bosses. Even if you have to go to office that would be for shorter periods in comparison to full timers.

Control

free lancers have complete control over their work. If a particular assignment doesn’t interest you, you can simply reject it. Full timers never have this liberty they have to fulfill whatever is assigned to them.

Motivation

free lancers are fearless people who are self-motivated because it is their career choice and absence of any external source of motivation drives them to be self-motivated. And a person who is motivated from within never needs to compromise nor does their work gets compromised.

Security And Stability

as a freelancer, you have multiplicity of clients, so if you lose one you can simply rely on others for your income. It is unlikely to lose all the clients at once unless there is a huge slowdown in the economy. Free lancers are more stable as compared to full timers because the latter has all their eggs in one basket, so for them losing their job is catastrophic.

Community

if you are an introvert and like to work lone in your own space, listening to your own music, with no distractions. Then, free lancing is a better career option. Being social by nature and believing in establishing long term relations a full-time job is comparatively a better option.

Cost Benefits

As a freelancer, you’ll be able to deduct a lot more expenses, deductions that aren’t available to employees. Deductions may include things like the costs associated with your home office, travel expenses, costs related to entertainment and meals, your Internet access, your cellphone package and any other reasonable and legitimate costs which you incur as a result of running your own business.

More Income Potential

your employer might charge a customer ten or twenty times the amount you are paid. As a freelancer, you’ll be able to charge what your work is worth, and you get to pocket all the profit after your expenses are paid. Your income isn’t capped by your hourly or salaried rate, either. The more effort you put into finding clients and landing new jobs, the more income you have the potential of making.

Freelancing offers partial respite from many factors but before plunging to career decisions, be sure which way to go, because as said earlier both the options have certain plus and minuses associated with them.
