The whitehat tiered link building strategy is split up into three tiers; You have tier 1 links that actually link to your site. But to throw Google off, instead of having hundreds or thousands of new links all of a sudden show up at your site, tier 2 links point to the tier 1 links to increase their credibility. It makes it more about quality and quantity. Tier 3 links do the same to tier 2 and in this way, your site has fewer numbers, but higher ranking inbound links, which Google likes better.
