For me, if it is a simple blog, then analyzing competitor design is enough. However, if you are going to design an ecommerce store, then exploring templates from Envato, or theme forest would be beneficial or you can check design.

When designing a modern website, there are several essential elements and best practices to consider for both functionality and aesthetics:

User-Centered Design: Always prioritize the user experience. Ensure the layout is intuitive, navigation is clear, and the site is easy to use across all devices.
Responsive Design: Mobile-friendliness is crucial. Use flexible grids and media queries to ensure your website looks great and functions smoothly on all screen sizes.
Fast Loading Speed: Optimize images, leverage caching, and minimize CSS and JavaScript to improve loading times. A fast website enhances user satisfaction and boosts SEO rankings.
Visual Hierarchy: Use typography, color, and spacing to guide users’ attention to important elements. Proper hierarchy ensures users can easily navigate and digest content.
Consistent Branding: Maintain a consistent color scheme, logo placement, and tone throughout the site to reinforce brand identity and build trust.
Clear Call-to-Action (CTA): Ensure CTAs stand out, are strategically placed, and clearly tell the user what action to take, whether it’s signing up, purchasing, or contacting.
Accessibility: Make your website accessible to all users by including features like alt text for images, keyboard navigation, and readable fonts. Following web accessibility standards helps everyone engage with your site.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Implement on-page SEO practices like meta tags, alt text, and keyword-optimized content to improve visibility on search engines.
Security: Use SSL certificates, regular updates, and proper encryption to ensure your site is secure, especially for e-commerce or data-sensitive websites.
Minimalism and Simplicity: Avoid clutter by keeping the design clean and focused. A minimalist approach enhances usability and ensures key elements stand out.
In my experience, involving users in the design process through feedback and testing ensures you’re creating a user-friendly and effective site. Also, staying up-to-date with design trends while adhering to proven usability practices is key to success.
